Yellow

Its Daffodil day...its all about supporting cancer research, and its all about yellow (and oh, how we love yellow). Support it by buying a beautiful bunch of daffs, and wearing vibrant yellow. And perhaps do the following:

Why not get your little hips out and about and on the go on their brilliant yellow Mini Micro. We love ours - have a read of our Mini Micro review.

And yes, well, its not raining today, but yellow Bergstein Gumboots are just what the doctor ordered. Get yours from our friends at Fawn and Fox.

Alternatively, get yourself down to your local cafe and celebrate all things yellow by buying yourself a Lemon Slice. And being 'with child' at the moment, there is absolutely no way I can refuse any thing lemon flavoured, and a lemon slice just hits the spot. My personal favourite one of my local cafes, Gourmet on Gamon - the best lemon slice in the West of Melbourne (methinks). Have a read of our friends at Little Eats review of this bubba friendly cafe (and many more of course).

Make sure you enjoy all things yellow today and support cancer research.

Super exciting times for Mountain Buggy...

We are super excited about the upcoming Mountain Buggy +1 pram. As you know, we've always been big Phil & Ted fans, and now its their partner in crime, Mountain Buggy's turn to shine. Yes, we've already praised the ingenious Freerider, but this new +1 concept looks excellent too.

More on this to come soon.

For little hips 'on the gro'...

Now that I have another little bun in the oven, my focus is once again looking at all those delightful baby products out there, in particular novel ideas that make life with little 'hips' on the move as easy and stressf ree as possible.

This product is one I've had my eyes on for quite a while, and love it. Yes, once again, its been designed by a very clever mummy, whose business is currently going from strength to strength (quite rightly so), and I cannot wait to give 'on the gro' a go.

The Kush-ee mat is a self inflating, very hip, mobile play mat, that is just perfect for little hip travellers. Designed by the delightful Mel Seears, whilst on holiday with her little bub, who just felt the need for a safe, machine washable, portable, and most importantly, with a funky range of covers, that could also roll up and be stored away when not in use.

The playmat is big enough for the baby / toddler to roll around on, and is cushioned providing insulation on warm or colder months. There are also grip dots on the bottom to stop the mat from moving around on wooden floors etc.

Perfect for home, in the park, on the beach, in fact, anywhere, we just love it...and word on the street is, Mel has more hip products up her sleeve. I personally cannot wait!

Night flights with kids...love them or hate them?

Okay, so most of the time, we don't have the choice. We simply just have to get from A and B, and for many of us, that means travelling up to 24 hours to get there. Even an 8 - 12 hour flight can be a killer if your little people choose not to be the golden bundles of joy that we know and love (mmmm).

On many occasions, we need to travel through the night. Picture this - hundreds of people are settling back and tuning into the latest flick, enjoying a bite to eat and a glass of wine, or catching up on some much needed zzzzz's. You, on the other hand, are wrestling 1, 2, or even 3 little people who JUST cannot get comfortable, JUST don't want to wear the ear phones, JUST have a sudden urge to run up and down the aisles, JUST want to kick the seat in front continuously, or JUST feel like screaming at full lung capacity, JUST because. Arghhhh!

I always thought night flights were the way to go. Pack some pj's, get them comfy, milk, all the usual bedtime routines, and hey presto, you have sleeping adorable children. And yes, that may work out well, and has in the past worked really well for me, but sometimes, it doesn't work, and you end up being that family from hell, the one that no one wants to sit next too.

On our recent flights from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur, we had two completely different experiences. Leaving Melbourne at midnight was really tough for all. Both my four and two year old were wide eyed and ready to play after a couple of hours of hurtling through the bright lights of Melbourne Airport. Settling them down on board a midnight flight when they proceeded to serve dinner and drinks before turning the lights off several hours later, was really really tough on my little hips. One woman even had the audacity to complain! You should have seen the evil looks that I gave her...

The return flight however was a completely different story. 9pm is my new favoured flight departure time. Just a few hours after bed time means the hips had a few hours of being 'staying up with the grown ups' before settling down in their seats, watching a quick cartoon over dinner, and then settling into a wonderful slumber! Hubby and I even got to watch a movie, and have a snooze ourselves. Bliss. We were even complimented on our well behaved children (thankfully they had not seen our terrors on the journey over!)

So, if you have the luxury of choosing a flight time, its well worth considering the age of the child. Babies are pretty good at any time, however when they become slightly older, its all rather exciting, regardless of how tired they are. Of course, remember to pack all those essential bits that you'll need - check out this packing list for more info.

And most important - remember you all paid pretty much the same to be on that flight, so you've all got the right to be there. Just make sure you ignore those evil passengers who give you the eye!

A brand & super exciting new hip product....

There's so much to come from our fabulous findings from the recent Life / Kids in Style tradeshow in Melbourne, but I couldn't wait to tell you all about this one...

Its a world first, and had been created once again by the uber clever ladies at b.box.

Due to be released in early 2012, this is one that all new mums will fight each other for. A perfect travel and on the go product, this hip baby bottle is so unique, as it comes with its own refillable dispenser for formula attached to the bottom of the bottle. Simple push a wee button, and the formula drops into the bottle, making it ready for your little bubba! Love it. Refill the dispenser, and use again and again, or remove the dispenser, and use it as a regular bottle all the time.

There are different sized teats available, plus different teat brands can be used with it. Oh, and did I say, it looks, like all those other b.box products, really really hip!

Can't wait to try it out on my new little hip in early 2012!

Thanks b.box ladies - you've done it again....

Another hip out and about invention...

Just thought I would pop this in quickly before doing multiple posts about my wonderful family holiday (just to make you all sick with envy), but on a different note, I just have to say how much I really love this clever invention from TotRiser.

Whether on the go, or just at home, TotRiser enables you to get rid of the plastic booster seats and make meal times / snack times / craft times etc much more fun. Designed as a soft and funky foam chair boast, its light, portable, and super easy to clean, and comes in some very hip designs and colours.

I have seen TotRiser again and again, and have meant to post about it many a time, but now Mr Left Hip is soooo into hippos, TotRiser has entered my little mind once more. Plus, I am sick of him kneeling 'up' to the dinner table as he is that teeny weeny bit too low. Little Miss Right hip would sure to be a fan of the pink butterfly too!

Perfect to pop into the back of the car, or leave at nanna's house too.

We love little ingenious hip inventions such as these....Good one TotRiser.
